Two Oceans Marathon is pleased to announce the ten Training Runs below for 2020, starting this Sunday, 12 January 2020.

While the dates for the Cape Town-based Training Runs are confirmed (note that the routes/host clubs will be finalised soon), the dates for Durban, Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg are tentative and will be finalised as soon as possible. Please keep an eye out on our official TOM social media platforms.

The Ultra Marathon Training Runs (24km and 28km) start at 5.30 am, while the shorter Half Marathon Training Runs start at 6 am. All Training Runs start and finish at the same venue.

Minimum Ages

As per WPA rules, you should be at least 15 years old if you wish to take part in a Half Marathon Training Run and 19 years old should you wish to partake in an Ultra Marathon Training Run. This is the minimum respective age you need to be in each case on the day of the event in which you intend to run.

How to RSVP

Please note: We have reached capacity so the RSVP link below has been disabled. We will provide the link once RSVPs for Training Run 2 open. Thank you. 

We create each Training Run as an Event in Facebook one week or more before the time. This is where you’ll find all your details. You’ll then be able to RSVP here as well as find a link to the indemnity form below.

It is imperative that your RSVP to enable us to adhere to cut-off limits strictly.

Please bring your indemnity forms to the training run. Unfortunately, no indemnity forms will be available at Race Registration.

#Run Clean

Cups will be provided along the route to minimise and/or eliminate the litter created by sachets. Please be mindful of the environment at all times and only dispose of your cups and litter at the refreshment stations or in the litter bins provided. Should you be caught littering by a marshal or TOM Training Run co-ordinator, you risk disqualification from the Training Run. Thanking you for helping us preserve the sustainability of our environment and, in the process, the planet.

Race Briefings

Please arrive early for your race briefing prior to each race.

You will be divided into four different pace groups (batches) lead by the Official Two Oceans Pace Setters. There will be pre-determined start batch times for pacesetters. The schedule to be distributed prior to each run – details of pacesetter, pace they are running, start time and estimated finish time per pacesetter.

A group leader and back marker will be allocated to each batch.

RSVP, Indemnity Form and Route – Atlantic Seaboard Training Run

Registration and start: Green Point Park, opposite Virgin Active – 1 Fritz Sonnenberg Rd, Green Point, Cape Town.

Time: 5:30am for 24km runners & 6:00am for 15km runners.

Below is your 24km route map, as well as route description and marshal plan

Route – 25km:

The start and finish will be at the Green Point Park Parking Area where ample parking is available.

Runners will be divided into four different pace groups lead by the Official Two Oceans Pace Setters. The first group will leave at 05:30 with the rest of the groups leaving in staggered starts. The smaller groups will alleviate congestion.

Runners will continue via Helen Suzman Boulevard to Sea Point Promenade. They will run along the Promenade to Sea Point Swimming Pool.

The first water point will be situated just before the Sea Point Swimming Pool on the sidewalk. The first marshals from Langa Athletic Club will be stationed here to direct runners towards Bantry Bay.

Runners will follow the route to Bantry Bay directed by marshals past Clifton, all the way to the intersection of Victoria and Lower Kloof Street.

The second water point hosted by Walmers AC will be stationed here at the turnaround point for participants in the shorter route.

Marshalls will direct the runners in the longer route to continue past Camps Bay in the direction of the Twelve Apostles to the turnaround point for the longer route participants. Bo-Kaap AC will be stationed here.

The third refreshment station will be here at the turnaround for the longer route. Marshalls will direct the runners to turn around and continue back the same way until they reach the intersection of Victoria and Lower Kloof Street where the refreshment station will be.

Here marshals will direct runners to turn right at Camps Bay High School. They will continue along over Kloof Street all the way down to Clarence Road.

Marshalls will be stationed here to direct runners to turn left down Clarence Road down to the Sea Point Promenade at the swimming pool.

The marshals stationed at the first waterpoint at the swimming pool will direct the runners to turn right along the promenade until they reach Helen Suzman Boulevard and back to the finish at Green Point Park.

Below is your 15km route description and marshal plan

Runners will continue via Helen Suzman Boulevard to Sea Point Promenade.  They will run along the Promenade to Sea Point Swimming Pool.

The Marshalls stationed at the first waterpoint at the swimming pool will direct the runners to turn right along the promenade until Helen Suzman Boulevard and back to the finish at Green Point Park.
