Annual Event Beneficiaries

The Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon doesn’t just provide a great day out for runners. The event is also a fantastic way to give something back to the community.

The Two Oceans Marathon Initiative (TOMI) was launched ahead of the 2012 event, as a fundraising initiative that provides much-needed funding for select groups of charities that match Two Oceans’ support pillars:

Official Beneficiaries of the 2018 Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon

When runners enter their chosen event, they are also given the opportunity to make a donation to TOMI and support one of the initiative’s official beneficiaries.

WILDLANDS Conservation Trust

WILDLANDS, a programme of the WILDTRUST, continues to flourish with three interlinked project themes. These are promoting and enabling South Africa’s biodiversity economy, supporting and shaping ecological restoration interventions that repair and restore the ecosystems that support us, and catalysing and encouraging sustainable communities across our programme footprint.

Underwritten by our partnerships with government, businesses and civil society, our team continues to make a real impact, shaping the future of environmental custodianship and inclusive growth in South Africa.

Play Sport 4 Life

Our goal at Play Sport4life (PS4L) is to develop as many elite sports athletes as we can manage. Athlete development requires identifying and profiling raw talent that is hidden in our disadvantaged communities. We have a structure in place to manage the process from school to club level, through to  provincial and national levels. Negotiations for a community-based development centre is underway to assist in the facilitation of athlete development.

Ikhaya Le Themba

iKhaya le Themba Project is an NGO located in the township of Imizamo Yethu, Hout Bay, providing educational support and holistic care for 100 orphaned and vulnerable children and their extended families.  Our programmes include an intensive after-school care facility five days a week with homework labs, literacy and numeracy labs and a curriculum designed to re-enforce learning along with the governmental CAPS system. We also offer programmes for our parents, from parent workshops, Wordworks and computer literacy to skills development, CV writing and job search assistance. These programmes began in 2004 and has now been embraced by the community, with 70% of staffers working for this community living in the township.
