Medical Newsflash: Introduction (2018)
12 February 2018
The world’s most beautiful marathon is looming, and feet are getting itchy. It’s been a particularly frenzied time for the OMTOM medical team. We’ve been busy compiling a read-worthy series of running-related medical newsflashes to guide you in reducing your risk of injury or medical complication come race- day.
The coming series aims to address any pre-race questions and concerns you may have by covering some of the more common race day medical issues. It’s important to note that although less common, more serious medical complications do occur, but are usually related to individuals with pre-existing medical conditions.
The medical team will be screening at risk athletes via the online medical questionnaire, and appropriate advice will be given on an individual basis. Your safety on race day is of paramount importance, and we want to ensure you cross the finish line in good health and injury/illness free.
Our newsflash series is structured on the most recent medical evidence-based principles, and consists of the following topics:
- Health screening
- Musculoskeletal injuries
- Muscle cramping
- Skin problems
- Gastro-intestinal conditions
- Exercise induced postural hypotension (dizziness or collapse after race completion)
Watch this space, the answer and prevention to all your medical concerns are a newsflash away.
Best of luck with your training!
