Our event was recently granted International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) Gold Label status which we are really excited about as it gives the ultra, and ultimately the entire event, more prestige on the global stage. It also means that the ultra becomes a selection race for the World Trophy 50km Final later in the year. The IAU decided a couple of years ago to introduce the IAU Labelling at those events that qualified to ensure that:
- The race course is measured to conform to the IAAF regulations, and this is especially important when a World or Continental Best Performance is run. It is the only way performances can be compared.
- The race is recognised by its own National Athletics Federation, to bring ultra running closer to the National Federations.
- The result is that only performances in the IAU labelled races will be recognised officially. This is not only important for possible "Best Performances" but also for the calculations of the travel grants which are distributed at the major IAU competitions (MIAUC´s).
