Now in its 13th edition, the 2026 Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon Trail Run powered by BYD delivered two action-packed distances – 24km and 16km – on Friday, 10 April 2026, taking runners on an unforgettable journey through some of Table Mountain’s most breathtaking and dramatic terrain.
The 24km route was designed for experienced trail runners, with several tough uphill climbs. This classic 24km trail run offered incredible variety and unforgettable views.
Collin Kanyimo proved to be in a league of his own crossing the finish line first in an impressive time of 02:02:07. “My plan was to run away on the up runs, I am stronger there, down runs are difficult for me. These days I am specialising in road races. So, I know that I have speed. I pushed on the up runs to open a big gap. I knew when I reached the down runs I could just relax. The route was nice – challenging and tough. I am very happy to finish first this year.”
In the women’s race Ebeth Marais laid down the gauntlet claiming the top spot on the podium in 02:18:03 on her Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon Trail Run debut. “I started running trail more seriously last year. I just love the Cape Town trails and knew that the route would be great, while the support along the way was amazing. It was unbelievable to cross the finish line first.”
Ideal for newcomers to trail running, the 16km route (+-960m – 1000m ascent) was mildly challenging, featuring two steep climbs (on foot, no rock climbing) and some speedy downhills. The trail featured a mix of surfaces, including mostly gravel single track, two short sections of tar, jeep track, and grassy fields – treating runners to a bit of everything.
Melikhaya Msizi was dominant in the men’s race crossing the finish line first in 01:18:12. “The route was nice, and challenging. In the beginning it wasn’t my plan to win, but after8km I was feeling good and started pushing myself. Crossing the finish line first today is big for me.”
Louise Mullertook no prisoners in the women’s race with her impressive finishing time of 01:30:34. “This is my first Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon Trail Run. I was deciding between the longer and shorter race, I wanted to see which one I am better at. The race was great, nice runnable terrain, steep down hills, but if you train your down hills, you’ll be fine and the up hills were runnable. Crossing the finish line first was amazing, it’s a feeling that I was dreaming about. I didn’t think it would happen. I’ll definitely be back next year, maybe for the 24km.”
Chris Goldschmidt, Chairperson of the Two Oceans Marathon NPC: “The Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon Trail Runs continue to be one of the most popular trail races on the calendar and it’s easy to see why. They offer runners the chance to experience the natural beauty of the Cape Peninsula while enjoying the camaraderie and spirit that define the Two Oceans Marathon. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm on the trails today, with runners embracing both the challenge and the spectacular scenery that make this event so special.”
Highlighting the significance of the Trail Runs within race weekend, Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon Race powered by BYD General Manager Wade Bromfield added: “The Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon Trail Runs are a fantastic way to kick off race weekend and showcase another side of what this iconic event has to offer. The routes provide a unique trail running experience, allowing participants to explore some of Cape Town’s most beautiful landscapes while being part of the broader Two Oceans Marathon celebrations. It’s always rewarding to see runners cross the finish line with big smiles after a challenging and memorable day on the trails.”
