Two Oceans Marathon appoints seasoned sports industry executive Adnaan Mohamed as Elite Athlete Manager

27 January 2022

The Two Oceans Marathon NPC warmly welcomes Adnaan Mohamed to the Elite Athlete Management portfolio for the globally iconic Two Oceans Marathon set to take place on 16 and 17 April 2022.

Adnaan needs no introduction to South Africa’s running fraternity. Among his many high-profile sporting roles, he has served as a Western Province Athletics (WPA) board member from 2017 – 2021, and as club president and Exco member for more than a decade concurrently.

Besides the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008 and Rio de Janeiro in 2016, Adnaan also recently accompanied the South African Olympic Team to Tokyo in 2021 as one of a handful of accredited media appointees. The award-winning journalist, media professional and Central Athletics 10km Challenge race director is no stranger to the TOM community either, having overseen the TOM Training Run programme from 2017 to 2020.

‘We are pleased to have Adnaan join us in this capacity of Elite Athlete Manager in the run up to our 2022 Race, given his excellence in service to the sport of running. His experience made him a natural fit for the role,’ says TOM NPC Chairperson William Swartbooi.

As the holder of permanent Blue Number 4065, Adnaan boasts 20 Two Oceans Marathon medals – 19 Ultras (56km) and one Half Marathon (21.1km).

Adnaan is a professionally decorated journalist and media manager. His roots, though, are in education. Prior to qualifying as a journalist, he worked as an education specialist for 16 years.

‘I am excited to be bringing the cream of the crop to the Two Oceans Marathon 2022 event and ensuring that our elite athletes have a smooth and well-managed entry-to-race-day experience,’ says Adnaan.

Race Director Debra Barnes adds: ‘We are confident that Adnaan’s knowledge of the sport and his experiences at the highest level athletics structures locally, as well as in the international media space, will bring a fresh perspective to the TOM Elite Athlete Management portfolio. His extensive road-running, athlete and  sports management experience will help create the necessary professional and conducive environment for the elite athletes to perform at their best.
