Hilton Kearns appointed as Two Oceans Marathon interim Race Manager

The Two Oceans Marathon NPC (TOM NPC) is pleased to confirm that former Celtic Harriers Club Captain and Vice Chairperson, Hilton Kearns, has been appointed as Two Oceans Marathon interim Race Manager. Kearns began assuming general responsibility for the successful staging of Africa’s biggest running event since the beginning of November 2022.
An accountant and educator (teacher) by professional background, Kearns has been a former key member of the TOM NPC Board, where his considerable financial and race planning expertise saw him head up both the Finance and Race Advisory Committees. Having served as the race director for the Cape Peninsula Marathon as well as the Don Lock Memorial Run, Kearns comes with a high degree of expertise equipping him for the Race Manager role.
Thanks to his astute nature and calm leadership style, Kearns also on occasion led the TOM Office through several formidable planning challenges amid a matrix of unpredictable circumstances during the 51st edition of the Two Oceans Marathon, the first edition of the race in the post-COVID era. His appointment has been keenly applauded by the TOM Office staff and warmly welcomed by TOM NPC members when it was first unveiled at the 13th Annual General Meeting of the TOM NPC in late October.
“We love that runners of all backgrounds, abilities, ages, and levels can find an extended family in the Two Oceans Marathon, with many runners making it their must-do race for the year,” says Kearns.
He continues, “We would like to broaden our welcome further so that even those who do not participate in the sport – or who are still thinking about taking up running – naturally gravitate towards our event for reasons of their own. Growth and continued good stakeholder and sponsor partnerships and engagement will be key drivers of this vision, so we will do everything we can to host a magnificent Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon 2023 event”.
Chairperson of the board, William Swartbooi says: “Kearns was a natural appointee given his proven credentials and having led two critical board committees; but also having voluntarily stepped in to assist the office in real-time, project managing during crises in the past. We are very confident in our appointment of Hilton Kearns as Race Manager in this interim position”.
