GivenGain – Here’s how to run and raise funds for any cause

10 January 2019

The world’s most beautiful marathon is also proud to be a community home for runners with big hearts. Last year, The Two Oceans Marathon Initiative (TOMI) raised more than R4 million collectively to bring about positive and lasting social impact change. At Africa’s biggest running event, we’d like our milestone 50th marathon to be historic in more ways than one – we want to make history by surpassing the R5 million mark that is raised for charity, and then some.

Be part of this momentous occasion by fundraising with us for a great cause – any cause! This means you can either select the charity you want to fundraise for on our GivenGain page or register a different cause of your choice.

To get started, visit the OMTOM fundraising page. Select your preferred event. Then, simply click on ‘Start fundraising’ on the event page to register your project and choose a charity close to your heart. Now share your project link with family and friends to ask for donations! For step-by-step instructions, download the PDF guide.

What about registering your own project or a new one not listed so you can fundraise for this other cause? All fundraising on GivenGain always has to be for the benefit of a registered non-profit entity, such as a trust, NPO, Voluntary Association (VA) or a bank account opened in the name of that entity. Therefore, the steps are the following:

  1. Have your cause registered as a trust, NPO or VA, and open a bank account in the name of this entity.
  2. Apply for a charity account on GivenGain here: https://www.givengain.com/list/.
  3. Once activated and set up, the charity or cause will be able to be the recipient of fundraising efforts from individuals.

Questions about how to register your own or a new fundraising project? E-mail our official fundraising platform partner, GivenGain, at fundraising@givengain.com.

Thank you for helping Africa’s biggest running event to make lasting footprints of change for the better possible in a bigger, bolder way than ever before.
