Trail Runs

25km and 12.6km

2 April 2021 TBC

The continued easing of restrictions in the South African sports and tourism sector is positive news and has been well-received by the running community.

While the TOM NPC continues to plan for the eventual opening of international sport, to the extent that we will be able to host another world-class and safe running experience soon, we are unable to provide an update on this event until we have met with all the relevant authorities and stakeholders.

We will keep you updated as our plans progress and in line with the potential easing of COVID-19 regulations.

Contributing up to R672 million to the Western Cape economy annually as it does, the Two Oceans Marathon is Africa’s biggest running event as measured by economic impact, and Cape Town’s most prestigious race. It also features one of the best Trail Runs anywhere in South Africa. The Two Oceans Trail Run (TOTR) boasts nestled pathways and dramatic landscapes through Newlands Forest to the lower slopes of Devil’s Peak and beyond. As such, TOTR is also acclaimed as one of the most scenic and spectacular Trail Runs anywhere in the world.

Trail Run participants start at the University of Cape Town (UCT) at the top of the celebrated Jammie Steps. From there, you’ll head to Newlands Forest, encountering an exciting and exacting route, whether you’re an adventurous beginner or more seasoned at tackling trails. Expect to encounter steep ascents, technical descents and everything in between!

In TOM 2019, clubs were invited to nominate a handful of promising trail runners for sponsorship. TOM was delighted to host these talented 18-to-21-year-old athletes, for whom the event would otherwise likely have been inaccessible. So gifted were these club-nominated trail athletes, that all of them secured a top-ten finish.

Kindly note: You have to be 18 years or older on Race Day in order to run the trail route.
