Old Mutual

3:03:43 if you’re a man

3:30:35 if you’re a woman

Win the Old Mutual Two Oceans Ultra Marathon in record time in 2017 and R1 million is yours.

Old Mutual is once again ensuring that the world’s most beautiful 56 km marathon is also Africa’s most rewarded race.

For the fourth year in a row Old Mutual is offering R1 million each to the male and female runners who win the race AND break the record. This special reward is over and above the regular prize money awarded annually to the winners.

The men’s record of 3:03:44 was set in 1988 by road running legend Thompson Magawana, while Frith van der Merwe set the women’s record a year later in 1989 when she ran 3:30:36

The closest any runner has come since then is Zimbabwean Marko Mambo, who ran 3:05:39 in 2005, and who has won the race three times. Russian Olesya Nurgalieva ran the second fastest women’s time in 2008 when she crossed the finish line in 3:34:53.
The biggest road running event on the African continent attracts top runners from all over the world. Ralph Mupita, CEO for Old Mutual Emerging Markets, says: “We hope 2017 is the year that one of those records gets smashed. We can’t wait to witness history being made and we’re ready to hand over that R1 million - or R2 million, if both win!”

This is Old Mutual's 18th year as title sponsor.
