March 2010

March 2010

With just over 4 weeks left till race day, now is the time to start looking after yourself and staying injury & flu free. Remember that rest days are a vital part of your training and if you’ve been clocking up the miles then you deserve to give yourself some time off! Get in the pool, take the dogs for a walk, meet your friend for a coffee or spend time with your family. We know you’ve been ignoring everyone coz you’re training so hard! You should be planning your last long run in the next week and then it’s time to cut back and prepare for race day.

Entries close on 3 March and we currently have close to 6 000 entries. Please make sure you enter before the cut off date as no late entries will be accepted. Remember that substitutions, upgrades and downgrades will only be handled from Thursday 4 March through to Wednesday 10 March. No changes to entries will be possible after this date and no changes will be done at race registration at the Expo.
Please note that we will be taking hand delivered ultra entries ONLY after the Wednesday 3 March cut off date and only at the following marathons: • The Seeff Weskus Marathon in Langebaan on Saturday 6 March. • The PWC Marathon in Nelspruit on Saturday 6 March. • The Vaal Marathon in VanderBijl Park on Sunday 7 March. Only runners who run and qualify at these listed events can enter the ultra. Staff from the Two Oceans office will be at Langebaan to accept your entries on 6 March. Our Gauteng representative Lin will be at the Vaal Marathon on 7 March to accept your entries. You can contact her on 076-141 9466 or 011-976 4833. Lin will also be coordinating the Nelspruit entry process via the Nelspruit Marathon Club.
Close to 500 entries have already been received for the trail run so runners wanting to secure their entries in this event are advised to do so as soon as they can. The event offers participants a choice of an 8km and an 18km route. The trail runs take place on Good Friday 2 April, starting at 07h15. Entries are limited to 400 participants in the 8km and 400 in the 18km and entries will be taken at www.trailrunning.co.za. Both routes start from the UCT grounds and will take runners along the lower slopes of Devils Peak and adjacent forests. For more information on the trail runs email info@trailrunning.co.za. Andre Kearns marketing manager for SANParks said that they were delighted to partner with the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon and they encourage people to participate in this initiative for the maintenance of a healthy lifestyle, and to experience nature first hand.
PUMA Lacelets bring a new twist to what laces can be used for. With PUMA’s unique lacing kits, they show you how to lace and weave the Lacelets to create belts, bracelets, rings and yes, even shoe laces. Not only do the Lacelets add a new twist to wardrobes everywhere, they also help a global cause. A portion of the profits from the PUMA Lacelets will go towards funding the United Nations Environment Programme’s Year of Biodiversity and its associated programmes. The Lacelets feature intricate patterns by Kehinda Wiley and a special Unity Lacelet has been designed to coincide with our Africa Unity Kit and its message of a united Africa.
