March 2010 (2)

Things are certainly hotting up in the race office as we countdown to race day! Thanks to all the runners, we have a record field this year and everyone on our team is working flat out to bring you a race to remember. Close to 21 000 runners will descend on UCT on Saturday 3 April so we are appealing to all of you to plan to get up much earlier and get to the start a lot earlier than you have in the past. Try to give friends a lift through to cut down on the number of cars. Good luck with the last few weeks of training and remember to listen to your body now – if you feel tired, rather rest…it’s time to taper.

The auction of race entries was a great success and we’d like to thank all the runners who took part for their generous contributions. We managed to raise close to R40 000 for NOAH. Bidding is still open on Usain Bolt’s autographed PUMA spikes, exact replicas of the shoes that took him to victory in last year’s World Championships. You can also bid for the weekend getaway for two at the exclusive Mantis Collection Jock Safari Lodge in the Kruger National Park, valued at over R15 000. The auctions run through to Monday 5 April and the winners will be announced on Friday 9 April. All funds raised will go towards helping the event’s official charity NOAH (Nurturing Orphans of AIDS for Humanity).

Also making its debut at the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon is the Bolt Arms, PUMA’s custom-designed fan accessory that mimics the athlete’s famous “Lightning Bolt” victory pose from the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In true Bolt spirit, PUMA & Urban Ninja bring you the Bolt Bus for the Half Marathon. Do you love Bolt’s fresh attitude and the way he is able to bring a fun element to world-class racing? Then you need to be a part of the Bolt Bus. The idea is not based on time, it’s not based on performance, it’s based on having a good time. 20 people stand the chance to wear the infamous Bolt Arms, run with music, cameras and a vibe that can only be described as Bolt. Applications for runners are currently being taken on www.urban-ninja.co.za/index/contact-me/ but hurry as spots are going fast. Prove to the Urban Ninja that you are worthy of running in the Bolt Bus and stand in line to cruise across the line a touch over 2 hours on the day, posing at hot spots and making a spectacle of yourselves.
