The weeks are flying by and we hope that your training is going well. With so many people missing out on a half marathon entry we would like to bring to your attention that we will be accepting substitutions, along with upgrades and downgrades. However, these will only be processed from Thursday 4 March through to Wednesday 10 March. No changes to entries will be possible after this date and no changes will be done at race registration at the Expo. Visit www.twooceansmarathon.org.za for further info.
All the best with your training!

| As part of a major fundraising effort, the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon will be auctioning half marathon and ultra entries, as well as a pair of autographed Usain Bolt’s PUMA spikes, to participants with the highest bids.
20 half marathon and 10 ultra marathon entries will be auctioned at www.oldmutual.co.za/twooceansmarathon. Bidding for the half marathon entries opens at R950 on Monday 22 February, providing those participants who missed the entry deadline with a chance to secure an entry.
The first auction is for half marathon entries and runs through until Wednesday 10 March. The auction for ultra marathon entries opens on 4 March, with bidding also starting at R950, and running through until 10 March. Winning bids will also get a PUMA product voucher worth R1 500.
Also going on auction is a pair of Usain Bolt’s autographed PUMA spikes, exact replicas of the spikes that took him to victory in last year’s World Championships. This auction opens on Monday 22 February and runs through to Monday 5 April, with bidding starting at R15 000. The winner will be announced on Friday 9 April.
All funds raised will go towards helping the event’s official charity NOAH (Nurturing Orphans of AIDS for Humanity).

| All those planning to run the ultra marathon are advised to enter as soon as they have qualified to avoid missing out. Entries will close at 11 000 participants or on Wednesday 3 March, whichever comes first. Entries currently stand at the 4 000 mark and with most of the qualifying events taking place over the next few weekends, we expect that figure to change dramatically considering the renewed interest in ultra running events.

 |
| Please note that our representatives will be taking ultra entries ONLY after the Wednesday 3 March cut off date at the following marathons (no online entries, only entries taken at the finish venue of these races):
• The Seeff Weskus Marathon in Langebaan on Saturday 6 March.
• The PWC Marathon in Nelspruit on Saturday 6 March.
• The Vaal Marathon in VanderBijl Park on Sunday 7 March.
Our Gauteng representative Lin will be at the Vaal Marathon on 7 March to accept your entries. You can contact Lin at home on (011) 976 4833 or her cell 076 141 9466. Staff from the Two Oceans Office will be at Langebaan to accept your entries on 6 March.

| Online entries for the Old Mutual Two Oceans Trail Runs open on Monday 22 February. The event offers an 8km and an 18km route and takes place on Good Friday, before the fun runs. Entries are limited to 400 in the 8km and 400 in the 18km.
Both routes start from the UCT grounds and will take runners along the lower slopes of Devils Peak and adjacent forests. Beginner trail runners should enter the 8km event, as trail running times are often double that of road running. This is due to the variable terrain and the steep ascents and descents. Trail runners should wear trail shoes for better grip and carry their own hydration – a bladder pack or hip belt.
The race will be held under the auspices of the Two Oceans Marathon Association and will finish just in time for the start of the fun runs on Good Friday, the day before the ultra and half marathons. The trail runs will start at 07h15, with expected finishing times from 08h15 to 10h15, depending on the distance. All trail related questions can be directed to info@trailrunning.co.za. There is a wealth of information on the SA trail running scene at www.trailrunning.co.za. |

| Waste Plan embarked on a target to recycle 75% of all waste generated at last year’s event. They achieved a rate of 40%, which was a bit lower than expected but good compared to previous year’s efforts of 0% recycling. 2010 sees the introduction of custom-built machinery to help reach the 75% recycling target. This machinery, together with their determination to lessen the impact that this year’s race has on our environment, should see them achieve their target.
All Nampak garbage boxes will be folded and collected so they can be reused at future events to save Nampak manufacturing new boxes for each event thereby saving a few trees in the process. All plastic liners and bags used for garbage collection and handling will be made from 100% recycled plastic.
After this year’s Two Oceans, all waste material will be moved to a sorting facility in Maitland where the recyclable materials will be extracted and weighed, while the rest of the material (non-recyclable) will be taken to landfill sites. This will enable Waste Plan to have more reliable data to establish total recycling rate for the event. We invite you to all be a part of this initiative to ensure they reach their target for 2010. Visit www.wasteplan.co.zato find out more about recycling.
