We're hiring! Operations & Logistics Coordinator: “Start and Route”

The Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon has earned a reputation as the world’s most beautiful marathon. The event attracts close to 38 000 local and international running enthusiasts, participating in a range of distances and engaging with the brand in many related activities and forums throughout the year.

The organisers (Two Oceans Marathon NPC) seek a highly organised individual with exceptional attention to detail to assist the Operations & Logistics Manager with the planning and execution of the “start and route” of the Half and Ultra Marathon.

Reporting to the Operations & Logistics Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Creating the plan and layout for the Start of both the Half and Ultra Marathons, in consultation with the Operations Manager
  • Drafting updates to maps/layouts
  • Analysing the requirements for both the Start and Route, including:
    • Drawing up the Marshal Point Plans
    • Meeting with the Marshal Managers
    • Briefing the Marshal Managers
    • Drawing up the Refreshment Station Plan
    • Meeting with the Refreshment Station Management Team
    • Drawing up the Traffic Management Plan
    • Drawing up the full Route Plan (SABC points, RS points, Cut-off areas, branding plans, entertainment plans, Medical plans)
    • Providing full route briefing to all services
    • Suggesting improvements to the Start and Route
    • Consulting with relevant internal and external stakeholders
    • Identifying risks within portfolio
    • General administrative tasks

The successful candidate will have: 

  • A minimum of 3 – 5 years event related work
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Highly organised with the ability to multi-task, effectively manage time and meet deadlines
    • Ability to deliver in high-pressure situations
    • Ability to think on feet and remain calm in crisis management
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Willingness to work flexible - and at times, extended - work hours
    • Must be familiar with Cape Town and the surrounding areas in regards to events
  • Experience in or knowledge of the sporting, health and wellness industries will be an advantage
  • Computer literate
