Old Mutual hosts Two Oceans Runners Village
A Runners Village was set up in Cape Town ahead of the 2018 Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon (OMTOM) to give 350 underprivileged athletes the opportunity to experience the magic of the OMTOM weekend.
Title sponsor Old Mutual was again the main sponsor of the OMTOM Runners Village, which accommodated runners from across South Africa.
Apart from comfortable accommodation at the Cape Academy of Mathematics, Science and Technology in Tokai, the Runners Village also provided meals and transport to and from the event.
"It feels like the whole world descends on Cape Town over Easter for the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon," says Carol Vosloo, Two Oceans Marathon General Manager. "Yet we are keenly aware that without assistance some people just can't afford to be here. It's fantastic that our title sponsor puts so much into this initiative. We greatly appreciate it."
Runners want to tick off as many iconic marathons as possible, says Marcelle Arnold, Old Mutual Marketing Executive, and there aren't many events more iconic than the 49-year-old Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon. “Through this brilliant and inclusive initiative, many disadvantaged South African runners can now realise their dream. We reached our full capacity by the end of November 2017 emphasising the need for the Runners Village. We are thrilled to play a role in bringing South Africans from all walks of life together, and enabling more runners to experience this fantastic event.”
The Runners Village was host to runners who are unemployed or earn less than R3000 a month, and who are registered with a recognised and ASA-affiliated athletic club, and have entered and qualified for the 2018 Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon.
