Media Release

The Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon will make the dreams of 150 runners come true when they provide them with the opportunity to be a part of the Runners’ Village and to take part in the ultra marathon on Easter Saturday 7 April.

According to Rowyn James, race director for the event: “There are so many runners out there who have the passion and ability to do the event but do not have the financial capacity or support to make it happen. This is where the Runners’ Village steps in to assist selected runners with getting to the start line and making their running dreams a reality.”

Runners must fulfil various criteria in order to be considered and these include belonging to a recognised ASA affiliated running club, with clubs needing to nominate their respective runners. They must have entered and qualified for the 2012 ultra event and preference will be given to 56km novices and women, as well as runners who have not been a part of the Runners’ Village before. Unemployed runners or those who earn less than R3 000 per month will also be given preference.

The Runners’ Village will host 150 runners over the Easter weekend from Friday 6 April to Sunday 8 April, providing them with accommodation, all meals and transport to registration, the start and finish.

This opportunity is only for South African based runners and all runners are responsible for getting to Cape Town by their own means of transport. It is also not open to Cape Town based runners but runners from outside of Cape Town are welcome to apply.

Those interested in applying or finding out more information can contact the appointed NGO organisers Inkanyezi Marketing, Communications and Promotions on 021-528 8169 from 09h00 to 16h00. Application forms are available on www.inkanyezimarketing.co.za and all applications must be received by 7 March. For more information visit www.twooceansmarathon.org.za.
