Family fun at the Old Mutual Two Oceans Fun Runs

Runners and walkers of all ages are invited to take part in the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon fun runs on Good Friday, 6 April to experience what makes the country’s biggest road running event so special. The fun runs take place from the sports fields at the University of Cape Town from 12h00 onwards. Participants can enter at the Expo at the Good Hope Centre on Wednesday 4 and Thursday 5 April and late entries will take place on race day at the UCT rugby fields from 09h00 onwards.

There’s the 56m Nappy Dash – for children 1 to 3 years (limited to first 250 entries) at 12h00, a 300m Toddlers’ Trot – for children aged 4 to 6 (limited to first 300 entries) at 12h30, a 2.5km at 13h30 and a 5km at 14h30.

The fun runs attract over 6 000 participants across the various distances and there is a distance to suit every member of the family. Runners and walkers of all ages are welcome to take part. These events are a great way to introduce kids to running and a healthy lifestyle.

A series of four fun run challenges were held during March in Eerste Rivier, Manenberg, Khayelitsha and Delft to promote the main fun runs on Good Friday. These fun run challenges are a partnership between the Two Oceans Marathon and local running clubs as well as Western Province Athletics to promote running within the communities and the main fun runs on Good Friday, to develop race organising skills and to encourage children to enjoy running, plus increase participation at the main fun runs.

These fun run challenges were used to identify and develop the talent that exists in the local schools as the top twenty boys and girls from each of the four challenges all received automatic entry into the 5km fun run on Good Friday. Old Mutual awarded bursaries of R1 500 and R1 000 to the top two boys and girls across the finish line at each fun run challenge, with additional bursaries as lucky draw prizes.
