18 & 19 April 2014
The Expo at the Good Hope Centre was the biggest to date, attracting over 50 000 visitors, 130 exhibitors, 22 first time exhibitors and 78 companies and was sold out for the first time since it was introduced. We know there were huge delays with the registration on Friday and for that we do apologise. Only 4 500 people registered on Wednesday and 9000 on Thursday, which meant that close to 13000 runners registered on Good Friday, the biggest number of people we have ever had registered on one single day in the history of the event. The venue just could not cope with that volume.
Not only was the number of people a challenge, the fact that 54% of the half marathon field were novices and needed to have various event details explained to them, seemed to compound the problem, as staff had to spend extra time with each runner. We have taken note of the delays at registration and, in conjunction with Conker Exhibitions, our Expo partner of four years, will install measures to alleviate this going forward.
There have also been some quality issues with the goodie bag that have been brought to our attention and we are investigating these with the supplier.
