Master of the body

Master of the body

THANK YOU EVERYONE... very much... for a well organized and inspiring event. As a novice to the Old Mutual Two Oceans half marathon at the age of 60 (turned 61 on
April 27) this was my first participation in a major event after having been an active middle distance runner during 1969-1972.

The atmosphere arising from so many souls gathered in an attempt to dominate the distance and to prove that the psych can be master of the body, is not easy to convey with words – you have to be THERE to comprehend, preferably as a runner, however the participation by spectators (especially one’s LOVED ones) cannot be reduced to unimportant
at all!

The sound of the National Anthem from inspired voices 3 minutes before the official start put the song in a new perspective. I will always cherish the moment.

My daughter and her friend also ran the “half” and finished well in advance of myself, but what was nice about this is that they, together with my wife, waited anxiously for “dad” to also cross the finish and receive the “bronze”.
Hope to live to run again in 2012.
