I finished my first Two Oceans ultra marathon in 2007, and it was love at the first step at the start in Main Road.
I then skipped the race in 2008, but came back for a second dose of the beautiful scenery in 2009. That year I ran slower than my first race, but finished stronger, which allowed me to better enjoy and appreciate the scenery, the crowds and the fantastic atmosphere. I then completely lost my heart to the Two Oceans.
This year I came back again for what now seems to have become an addiction for me. The whole weekend experience of flying down to Cape Town and participating in the most beautiful marathon has earned itself a permanent spot on my calendar! I am surely going to try and participate in this marathon for as long as God willing.
So much am I in love with the Two Oceans Marathon, that I dread running over the finishing line! Once I cross the finishing line, it is all game over, goal achieved, done and dusted, and then I have to wait another 364 days before being able to enjoy it all over again! 364 Days is way too long!
Congrats to the organisers for hosting such a prestigous and superbly organised event. This year it was even better and greater than the previous years that I had attended. The registration process was jaw-droppingly efficient and smooth! 20 out of 10 has been awarded to that department!
I finished in a time of 6:32, which is my second best time. 10 minutes slower than the PB I ran in my first race in 2007, and 14 minutes better than my second race last year in 2009. Albeit struggling with intestinal discomfort for the biggest part of the race, I managed to get a second wind at the top of Constantia Nek, and then it was all flatout to the finishing line.
My legs are now definitely reaching their peak as they become stronger and recover quicker.
