Running4Rare (Rare Diseases South Africa)
The Rare Disease Society was established in 2013 after it became apparent that there was a severe lack of support for patients with Rare Conditions. Whilst many of the conditions are exactly that – Rare – you may find only a single individual in a county living with a specific disease, making it incredibly difficult for them to find support and assistance – both emotionally and financially. The Rare Disease Society was established to create an umbrella organisation –offering support, assistance and advocacy for patients with all rare conditions. We are a registered NPO, and Public Benefit Organization (NPO 120-991) and aim to ensure that all rare disease patients receive access to treatment and supportive care for improved quality of life. There are as many as 7500 different, registered rare diseases – so whilst they may be individually rare, collectively they are common.
Running4Rare is the running fundraising division of Rare Diseases SA and we encourage runners and athletes to utilise their mobility for the benefit of those without it due to debilitating and degenerative conditions.
