National Institute for the Deaf
The National Institute for the Deaf (NID), situated in the Western Cape, is the only organisation in South Africa serving the needs of Deaf and persons with hearing loss of all ages and has been offering these services for over 133 years.
Programmes and interventions include: a school for the Deaf to Grade 12, with a baby care unit and nursery school; the only occupational training college for the Deaf in South Africa, serving the Deaf from all our neighbouring states; a care unit for multiple-disabled deaf adults, the only one in Africa; two old age homes for the Deaf in Worcester and Bellville; a theological seminary, training deaf pastors to minister to the Deaf, the only of its kind in Africa; and an Academy, providing on- and off campus support services to the Deaf and the public.
Cost:R300.00 entry fee (includes entry, Run for the Deaf t-shirt and goodie-bag)
*Runners will be required to raise an additional minimum of R 1500.00 for the work done by the NID for the Deaf and persons with hearing loss. NID provides full fundraising support e.g. information, brochures, sponsor forms etc. which participants will need to raise funds for NID.
