Cape Mental Health
Founded in 1913, Cape Mental Health (CMH) is a recognised ‘best practice’ organisation that provides a range of community-based mental health services and landmark advocacy initiatives for the development and safeguarding of the rights of persons with mental disabilities (both intellectual and psychiatric).
Our mission is to provide or facilitate comprehensive, pro-active and enabling mental health services in the Western Cape, particularly in disadvantaged or poorly resourced urban and rural communities.
We educate people about mental health and mental disability, reduce stigma and discrimination against persons with mental disabilities, and equip mental health care users with the skills and work experience they need to enjoy their rightful place in society.
Our tagline – all about ability – reflects our unified purpose of recognising and nurturing the abilities of our service users, our staff and our volunteers.
