Juliet's Journey: My Cadence if Fueled by Faith, Love & Gratitude!
I learnt all about the meaning of “cadence” recently.
Cadence (tempo, rhythm, pace, beat, pulse, stroke): The number of times your foot strikes the ground in a given time period, usually measured per minute.
Your height, weight, leg and stride length, and running ability will affect your optimal cadence. Your cadence is one of many factors which plays a role in how long you are going to be on the road during a run or race and whether said run will be an inspiring and therapeutic glide or rather an effortful mission of epic proportions.
Scientifically, there are many ways to increase your cadence in order to improve your running. But for me personally, my heart & my soul are intrinsically connected to my feet and therefore provide the fuel for my cadence, my rhythm, my tempo.
I began this running journey in an endeavour to reclaim my health from the grasp of breast cancer and today, I am a day away from a major oncology checkup with the whole array of tests, scans, xrays and a mammogram. I don’t know what those tests will reveal, nor do I know what the future holds, but I do know who holds my future and God’s abiding FAITHfulness has brought me a solitary journey of peace, purpose, provision, hope, and the blessing of running.
As in life, running can be a solitary journey but it can also be the most wonderful experience of caring, reaching out, blessing and inspiring one another. Whilst some runs, and indeed life paths, need be taken alone, for the most part journeying through life and towards #OMTOM2016 with the blessing of my unique group of cheerleaders - the people in my front row, my “teamsters” - makes valleys less daunting, mountain tops more exhilarating, hills more achievable, unexpected twists & turns less overwhelming, distances less impossible, and the finish line celebration infinitely more sweet. I have been blessed to journey with beautiful angels and at the heart of this journey lies the strength of LOVE that is shared and expressed.
To say that my GRATITUDE knows no boundaries would be an understatement. It makes me acutely aware of the many blessings around me, everywhere, every day! From the teeniest tiniest obscure blessings, to the bigger more obvious ones, I never fail to be blown away or overwhelmed with gratitude. For me, gratitude is the life filter that gives us perspective. Times are tough and life is challenging, but there is always something to be grateful for.
With only 30 days to go to OMTOM2016, my cadence is very definitely fuelled by FAITH, LOVE & GRATITUDE.
