Inspiring Runner: Andrew Rich
After a difficult and painful battle with cancer, Andrew's wife started running and encouraged him to join her. This was the push Andrew needed to join the exercise revolution. Read about his journey from cancer, to cycling, running and eventually marathon running...
On 28 December 2006 I was diagnosed with T4 Bladder Cancer.
After a long and hard recovery, My wife got me to start to exercise in 2010 when she started running. So I started cycling.
After I completing 3 Cape Town Cycle Tours, 3 Stellenbosch Cycle Tours as well as numberous MTB events, I started running, to help with my fittness on the bike, in 2013.
I decided to do the Cape Town Marathon in 2013 and joined Nedbank Running Club.
On the Friday of the marathon weekend I got a throat infection and could not run. I was very dissapointed. I entered the Vital Winelands Marathon and continued my training.
In 2015 I completed the Cape Town Marathon in 5:24. I could not have done any of this without the support of my family and friends. While on the training program for Cape Town Marathon I met and made some awesome friends and we support each other in running and life.
In January 2016 I will be married to Annalie for 21 years. We have 2 sons, Robin aged 17 and Christian aged 14. I am currently a member of Carbineers WP.
Running used to be work until on one early morning run I realised it was fun, then everything changed.
