Back on track & having fun
This blog post is two weeks overdue. I’ve been a little ill, leaving me with no energy to write or train.
But I am happy to report that I have made progress. Over the past few days I have squeezed several 10 km runs and trail runs. My training is on track, despite my hectic work and social schedule.
With less than four weeks to go until the race day, I am feeling a mixture of nerves and excitement. I even went shopping for new sneakers the other day. My current ones are about two years old and have also carried me from Cape Town to Darling for last year’s Rocking the Daisies.
A few friends of mine will be running the Ultra Marathon, and they have been training hard, running half marathons every other week in preparation. Am I doing enough to complete 21 km? I ask myself this question as we are getting closer to 4 April. Maybe I should have joined a running club for motivation. But I am afraid this would have put me off. I love the flexibility of running whenever I feel like it…when I need to think or blow off some steam.
And besides… I relish the solitude of running - just me and my thoughts. When the panic creeps in, I remind myself that I will do my best and just have fun with it… it is my first half marathon after all.
