  • Half Marathon

I couldn’t have asked for a better kick-start to my running career – the 2004 Old Mutual Two Oceans Half Marathon, was the first 21 kilometres that I had ever run.

Little did I know that this would be the beginning of almost a decade of running?

Being fortunate enough to live in the Garden Route, the mountains & beach are my “backyard”. I couldn’t help but evolved into a trail runner – with my passion for nature & the outdoors.Just over two years ago– my husband /coach started upping the stakes, encouraging me to tap into a potential that I didn’t know that I had.  For the first time I began to enter races with the intention of trying to win - thankfully the results followed…

In June 2012, I was invited to join a crazy bunch of athletes in completing the “Valley Run” - taking place the day before the Comrades. (We too ran from Maritzburg to Durban – except it was a trail run of 104 kilometres). For the first time, I was exposed to “Fitness Philanthropy” – the 33 participants managed to raise close to R90 000 towards the Unlimited Child charity. What an awesome idea – using your God-given talent to better the circumstances of others!

This sparked the idea to host the BOOB run. In October 2012 my husband & I started sending out the invitations to SA’s first 100 Miler trail run (since coined the 100 MOUNTAIN miler: considering kloofing & climbing over the George Peak at midnight, was part of the course). Thirty-three hours later many a weary group of athlete completed the 160 kilometres route (four solo runners, with the remaining relay participants). Amongst the 44 athletes we managed to raise R 97 000 towards our Every BOOB Counts, Breast Cancer project.

The stage has been set for us suckers for punishment. The next challenge - a 65km trail run from Cape Point to Table Mountain the night before the world’s most beautiful marathon 56km ultra road race, which they will also complete.

Personally (being allergic to tar) – I will be racing in the 22 km Old Mutual Two Oceans Trail Run on Good Friday, topped off with the 65km Puffer route. Being there to cheer the guys on during their gruelling 56km Two Oceans experience – I can’t wait!!!!!
